Communication Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University is searching for a full-time, tenure track faculty member at the assistant/associate professor level for the academic year beginning August 2006. Applicants must have an MFA or professional equivalent, and have experience in the field of drawing, three-dimensional modeling, animation, and image and movement for 3-D and 2-D applications. Senior Systems Research and Development Engineer

 

The position will require direct contact with internal "clients" and external vendors in an Oscar- winning visual effects and animation production facility. The work is highly technical and will involve situation analysis, problem solving and resourcefulness.  Problems will be complex and broad in nature and involve a number of unknown variables requiring creative approaches to technical problems.  Innovation, adaptation and ability to exercise independent judgment will be required. The systems engineer must possess detailed understanding of hardware, software, systems integration, performance profiling, I/O testing, networking and digital video. This candidate should have 5+ years of experience in design and integration related to the field. This candidate must have a BSEE or equivalent; MSEE a plus.

Job Description:

Responsibilities of Position:

We seek a candidate with extensive understanding of CCD/CMOS imager performance issues in testing. This position will be responsible for both CCD and CMOS imager testing and test set-up development. The candidate will be a leading member in the development of state-of-the-art imagers for a variety of commercial and government clients. Responsibilities will include imager characterization - such as photon transfer statistics, QE, CTE, dark current and MTF etc.. Other responsibilities will include radiometric test equipment set-up, FPGA programming and test board design. Extensive knowledge of device physics relevant for CCD/CMOS imager operation is a must. The candidate will be interfacing with the camera development team to realize new and innovative camera products. Responsibilities will also include presenting in technical and management forums, both to internal and external parties. This individual will work with Business Development personnel, and should have a passion to see the results of their efforts come full cycle to the product stage.

TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN DIGITAL/MULTIMEDIA/NEW MEDIA AVAILABLE!

The Visual Media Division of the School of Communication at American University seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor with expertise in digital/multimedia/new media production beginning Fall 2004. Candidates are expected to have professional experience or creative work; a master's degree is required and university-level teaching experience is highly preferred. Applications will be considered beginning October 20, 2003, until the position is filled.

Responsibilities: Strategize integration of digital media into the curriculum across the three divisions (Visual Media, Public Communication and Journalism) of the School of Communication, and teach an average five-course load per year, primarily production courses. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in full-time and weekend programs. Some Saturday teaching may be required.

Production teaching responsibilities include digital post-production, web studio, and computer animation. Position will also design strategies to incorporate new media into existing curriculum. Depending on qualifications, media studies courses could include media history and visual literacy. All faculty are expected to advise students; assist in facilities and equipment management; continue creative, professional or scholarly work; participate in school and University activities and governance.

Qualifications: Professional experience or creative work that demonstrates a commitment to developing a body of original work recognized for its excellence in the professional and academic communities; MA required. Teaching experience at college level highly preferred. Applicants should be able to teach the use of hands-on applications for high-level creative, professional, and intellectual purposes in a sophisticated computer environment.
