The Washington DC Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH is proud to present, David Gracyalny, Vice Provost, Open Studies, for the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Mr. Gracyalny will be presenting on innovating at a 200 year old college of art and design, Open Studies, and MICA’s Master of Professional Studies (Business of Art and Design, Data Analytics and Visualization, and User Experience Design) and the Design Leadership MA/MBA program, a novel partnership between MICA and the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University.
MICA: Founded in 1826, MICA is the oldest independent, continuously degree-granting college of art and design in the U.S. MICA Open Studies serves a diverse student body of art and design professionals, educators, lifelong learners, amateur enthusiasts, students of traditional college age, teens, and children. In addition to studio art programs, which broaden access to MICA’s renowned instruction and facilities, Open Studies programs focus on professional preparation and advancement for artists, designers, and creative entrepreneurs. The unit also administers four unique professional graduate programs–the Business of Art and Design, Information Visualization, UX Design, and Design Leadership–that converge at the crossroads of design, technology, and commerce. MICA is redefining the role of the artists and designers as creative, solutions-oriented makers and thinkers who will drive social, cultural, and economic advancement for our future.
The meeting will be hosted on the Zoom platform. A link to the meeting will be provided 15 minutes prior to the presentation to all those who have responded to the announcement on our MeetUp. The link will also be visible to those who RSVP. Those who do not RSVP to the MeetUp announcement will not receive the link to the meeting.

Biography – David Gracyalny
David Gracyalny has been vice provost of MICA Open Studies since 2015, and for 14 years prior was dean of the School for Professional and Continuing Studies as the unit was previously called.
Prior to working at MICA, Mr. Gracyalny was associate dean for continuing education at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, Washington, D.C., and associate dean, director of continuing education, and associate professor at the former Maryland College of Art and Design, now School of Art and Design at Montgomery College. Mr. Gracyalny received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and a BA in Studio Art from University of Maryland, College Park.
